About the Agency

Huw Evans has built the biggest picture agency in Wales since taking over the Dennis Stephens Agency in 1993. Although based in Cardiff, we carry out commissions across Wales and England, regularly working in Pembrokeshire, Llanelli, Swansea, Newport, Bristol, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Worcester, Birmingham and London.

We are the official photographers for the Principality Stadium, the Welsh Rugby Union, the Cardiff Blues, the Ospreys, the Newport Gwent Dragons, the Scarlets and Glamorgan County Cricket Club. We cover Swansea City, Cardiff City and Newport County home and away. We also work for many blue chip companies, providing images for press releases, brochures and industry publications, as well as, amongst other things, indoor and outdoor events, staff portraits/headshots and awards ceremonies. We regularly receive commissions from the national and regional press and provide stock images to newspapers, magazines and television broadcasters around the world.

Our archive of news and sports images stretches back decades and our photographers have been in the thick of the action, capturing some of the most memorable pictures in Wales and beyond. We pride ourselves on providing the highest quality service and being able to supply your pictures within minutes of the event. Using the latest digital technology we can send pictures anywhere in the world in seconds.

Our photographers’ vast amount of experience helps our clients get the most out of their shoot and find the best way to highlight any event. And if you are looking for something extra, we can also provide aerial photography using our unmanned multi rotor platform or video and video editing services.

The Team

Huw Evans

In 1993 Huw Evans set up the business after working for and eventually buying the Dennis Stephens Agency. A former Press Photographer of the Year winner and Rugby Photographer of the Year, Huw began his career in 1977 after leaving school and joining the Western Mail and Echo, where he trained and passed his National Council for the Training of Journalist exams. He has now had pictures in publications all over the World and has also published three books. Since taking over the Agency he has now been on 6 Wales rugby tours and covered the biggest news and sport stories in Wales. In 2010 he organised and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro taking 15 former Welsh Rugby Captains to the summit and raising nearly half a million pounds for charity.

Gareth Everett

Gareth started as a trainee photographer on the South Wales Argus in 1988 after completing an OND in photography at Cross Keys College. While working on the paper he qualified through the National Council for the Training of Journalists Press Photography course and continued to work on the newspaper until 1995. In that period Gareth was named Ilford Young Photographer of the Year and Press Gazette Sports Photographer of the Year. He joined Huw Evans Agency in 1995 and has particularly enjoyed working in his first love of sports photography, covering Rugby World Cups, Six Nations and overseas tours. During his time with the agency he has increasingly developed the Public Relations and corporate photography arm of the business providing the clients with a wide range of photographic styles and images. This work is coupled with news and feature photography assignments for the National Newspapers. In 2017 Gareth was named News Photographer of the Year at the Wales Media Awards.

Ben Evans

Ben started with the agency part time in 2005 covering sport. Following a secondment to the South Wales Argus he came onboard full-time in 2006. Since then he has become one of our main sports photographers working with our rugby clients including the Welsh Rugby Union, Cardiff Blues, Scarlets, Ospreys and Newport-Gwent Dragons. He has covered Rugby World Cups, RBS Six Nations and Wales summer rugby tours as well as regularly photographing regional and club matches. He has also captured memorable pictures from other sporting events including Wales international and club football, boxing, cricket, golf, motor-sport and snooker as well as covering the Commonwealth Games in Delhi for a major television company.

Chris Fairweather

Chris began taking pictures at the age of 15, covering sport and news on a Saturday for his local paper, the Forest of Dean Review. After finishing school he took up a job at local agency Thousand Word Media, working closely with regional daily newspapers The Gloucester Citizen and Cheltenham Echo, along with a host of PR and magazine clients. He then moved to Ross Parry Agency in Leeds working on news and features across the north of England for the National and International media. In 2013 he came 2nd in the Young Photographer of the Year category at the Picture Editor Guild Awards. In October 2013 Chris joined the agency to develop his passion for sports photography, which has included covering the Wales football team's magnificent run in Euro 2016, whilst continuing to create original and exciting feature and PR pictures for our clients. For two years running he has been nominated for News Photographer of the Year at the Wales Media Awards.
